How does microneedling work?
Microneedling with derma roller is a new treatment modality for the treatment of skin damage such as scars, including acne scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, as well as overall facial rejuvenation
One single microneedle causes a tiny wound in the skin and as a result, this triggers the skin’s repair response. Blood rushes to the area, which produces a series of growth factors that promotes the body's own production of collagen and elastin. Effectively, you are stimulating the regeneration and repair cycles of the skin, which slow down as the skin ages or is under stress. Because you are stimulating the repair cycle, essentially you are able to assist in reducing the appearance of skin damage. Skin microneedling therapy has been studied extensively and has shown benefits in a wide variety of applications due to its ability to stimulate skin repair. It is considered a safe treatment of indications from post-burn injury, to reducing the appearance of enlarged pores.
When should you dispose of a derma roller?
Replace roller every 3 months for optimal performance. The needles will start to lose their original sharpness, and dull needles are ineffective in making micro penetrations in your skin's outer layer. In case of bending of needles and dropping you should replace the derma roller immediately.
How hard do you press when using Microneedle Derma Roller?
Gently roll the Microneedle Derma Roller over your skin vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, rolling twice over your cheeks, forehead, chin, and continue to neck and décolletage if required. No need to press too hard or put yourself in pain let the weight of the roller be the guide.
Can the microneedling stimulate hair growth?
Some studies have indicated that growth hormone is triggered by the roller’s usage, and this can help stimulate hair growth. However, this product has been designed with skincare benefits as a priority.
It is highly suggested that you should combine hair regrowth topicals with derma rolling to enhance the result.
Does microneedling help shrink pores?
Microneedling is a safe and effective method for reducing the appearance of enlarged pores. The micro injuries to the skin caused by microneedling trigger skin's own wound healing response. Collagen holds our skin cells together in a tight structure, so a boost in collagen creates the appearance of smaller pores and tighter skin. Collagen builds healthy supple skin.
How do you sterilise the Microneedle Derma Roller at home?
To avoid contaminating your skin, clean your derma roller before and after you use it. Use rubbing alcohol or Manicare Brush & Tool Sanitiser to sanitise your derma roller.
- When cleaning with tool sanitiser, hold the derma roller upside down to minimise the sanitiser coming in contact with the handle.
- Concentrate the spray sanitiser on the roller head.
- Gently wipe away excess sanitiser from the handle prior to placing in protective plastic container.
How long does it take to see results?
As with any change in your skincare routine, it can take anywhere from 2 4 weeks before you notice visible results.
Is it safe to use the Microneedle Derma Roller on a long term basis?
You can use the microneedle derma roller long term, provided that you are replacing your device every 3 months. We do recommend that the derma roller is only used 3 times a week it is important to give your skin time to repair itself between each session.
Can Microneedle Derma Roller be used on the scalp or body?
This product is mainly intended for the face, however, it is ok if you feel comfortable using this device on your scalp or body. It is important to remember not to use on any skin (including scalp) that is inflamed or with open wounds (this includes psoriasis and excess flaking on the scalp).
Is it safe to use the Microneedle Derma Roller when pregnant?
Yes, the microneedle derma roller is a safe way to naturally boost collagen and help stimulate skin regeneration using your body’s own natural processes. Please note that pregnancy can cause increased skin sensitivity in some people, so make sure to do a patch test first.
Should I be using the Microneedle Derma Roller over skin treated with injectables?
While microneedling can complement the effects of injectables such as botox and other fillers, it is recommended waiting 2 4 weeks after your injectable session before you start microneedling. This is to make sure the skin is not overstimulated which can compromise results of your injectable.
Can the Microneedle Derma Roller be used in conjunction with other skincare treatments, for example microblading?
Microblading is a treatment which also creates small wounds in the skin, similar to a tattoo to help colour areas of the face such as eyebrows or lips. You can still use your microneedle derma roller on the areas around your microblading, however, it is best to avoid the microbladed area.
Is exfoliating the skin with a chemical peel or scrub recommended prior to micro derma rolling for improved, faster results?
It is important to remember that microneedling can be quite intense for the skin, so it is important to make sure the skin is comfortable and soothed before and after the treatment. While chemical peels and other exfoliating treatments can complement the results of the microneedle derma roller, we would suggest doing exfoliation on an alternative day to your derma rolling session. Overstimulating the skin can cause more damage, which we want to avoid.
What should I put on my skin after using Microneedle Derma Roller?
Microneedling can make the skin more permeable to skincare, so it is important to nourish and soothe the skin with good quality products after using your derma roller.
Making sure your hands are clean, you can apply your favourite serum and/or moisturiser. These can either be simple products that help to hydrate the skin as it repairs, or products that contain powerful actives for boosted results.
When adding microneedling to your routine, it’s important to also remember to wear SPF during the day.
Can I use Vitamin C serum after Microneedle Derma Roller?
Yes, it is a great time to use serums with powerful active ingredients like vitamin C, as the derma roller will help the ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin. Be mindful that since the ingredients are going deeper into the skin, you may experience slightly more sensitivity to your product than usual. We always recommend doing a patch test before using your serum over your whole face.
Can I use Hyaluronic Acid after using Microneedle Derma Roller?
Yes, hyaluronic acid is a great option to use after the microneedle derma roller to help hydrate and soothe the skin. It is an important molecule the skin uses in it’s repair cycle too!
